The surroundings of Monflanquin

The landscape around Monflanquin looks a bit like Tuscany with hills, fields, acres and trees. The direct surroundings of Monflanquin are very suitable for walks and tracks; there is a Grande Randonnée passing through the village and there is a Petit Randonnée of about 20 kilometer that can be started at Les Bourdeaux. In the living room for our guests you can find descriptions of walks in the neighbourhood.

On walking distance of Les Bourdeaux there is a manège were horses can be hired for horse riding tours.

In Castelnaud, 15 kilometers west of Monflanquin, you can find a 9 and 18 holes golfcourse. In the village of Tombeboeuf you will find a smaller, but very nice golfcourse, owned by an English couple.

Near Monflanquin there are some nice bastide villages to visit like Monpazier, Villereal, Eymet. Issigeac and Villeneuve sur Lot. In all those villages there is a market at least once a week. Penne d'Agenais, about 20 kilometer south of Les Bourdeaux, is a beautiful artist village with steep streets and nice shops.

On a short distance of Monflanquin you can visit various castles like Chateau Biron, Chateau Bonaguil and, a little bit further away, Chateau Monbazillac, famous for the sweet desert wine. Along the river the Dordogne you will find more beautiful castles.

For the lovers of wine there are three interesting wine areas in the neighbourhood, the Duras area, the Cahors area and the Bergerac area. Along the wine routes in those areas you find farms and castles where you can taste as much wine as you want. A little bit further away, but still not to far away from Monflanquin, you can visit the famous Bordeaux area.

About fifty kilometers north of Monflanquin lies the Dordogne region, with a more rough landscape and beautifull places to visit like Sarlat, Bergerac and Rocamadour. The surroundings in the Dordogne are very suitable for nice walks and we also recommend a canoe-trip on the river Dordogne.

Agen, capital of the Lot-et-Garonne, is a nice town about fourty kilometers south of Monflanquin. For the kids there is a Walibi water world.
